Black Mesa

I had a bunch of good titles for this post but had a system crash about 20 minutes ago, and I’m still trying to find my files. Just one of those days, I guess…

Black Mesa, the most anticipated mod of all time (probably). It has been in development for some time now and despite them only ever giving a “Done when it’s done” response when questioned the last trailer they released suggested to me that they were aiming for the end of last year. It all went relatively quiet after that. until now. They have released some new screens…

What the hell are these things? And why are they wearin science team uniforms?

Not only is this fan made remake of Half-Life on of the most anticipated mods of all time, it was clearly one of the most ambitious. To re-make a whole game, levels art, models, textures, all from scratch as well as large amounts of coding for the engine. It isn’t really surprising it is taking so long.

Some people have said that the Source engine is getting a bit long in the tooth and that Valve should replace it for HL2:E3, when you see what the Black Mesa team has done with the Orange Box version of Source it is clear they are talking rubbish and all valve would need to do is give it a bit of an update.

Destroy the damn thing before it grows any larger!

If you hadn’t heard of this mod but were a fan of Half-life then check out their site, join their Steam group or follow them on Twitter. If you had heard of the mod, you should be doing these things already as it looks like it will be more than worth the wait.
